Audience essay feedback:

WWW:

·         Wow – this is phenomenal! You’ve written over 1,000 words which demonstrates that you’re really stepping up to the challenges of GCSE level. Well done!
·         There are so many good points here where you discuss both audiences and industry in relation to the internet. You’ve also addressed the power of conglomerates and brought in some media effects theory. This is seriously impressive!

EBI:

·         This is an easy one: paragraphs! You need to work on organising your extended writing and constructing an argument. This means planning your paragraph structure and in particular working on topic sentences – the first sentence in a paragraph. Make sure every topic sentence focuses on the question and develops your argument.
·         Clearer sentence structure – pay more attention to spelling, grammar and word choice. You have excellent content but you need to proofread your work to check it makes grammatical sense for your reader. At GCSE level, good written English is essential!
·         In terms of this essay, the newspaper section is weaker than film and music so that’s one to keep an eye on in future.

camera work

as you can see in this teaser trailer, it consists of a variety of different shots and movements for example at the time between 0:00 to 0:08, there are just a compilation of usual cuts but with camera shots like medium close up and medium shots.also, looking back at that, during that period of time there was a bit of some crane/track shots.however for just a bit after at an extremely fast pace, showing a series of cuts which maybe looked like they were flashbacks or hidden thoughts.

essay

agree to this statement with a minor extent, one reason I think this is because if you take YouTube for example, and you go onto a big you tubers YouTube channel, you will see that usually, if there is music, it would be an unknown or unpopular song as YouTube would take down the video of the prosumer if it was a popular song more than an unpopular one, therefore, showing the superiority of which the industry (in this case YouTube) has compared to the audience. However, my opinion changes if we move onto Netflix. This is because in my opinion I feel that the consumers/audience have more advantages than disadvantages. For example they can watch a variety of shows, movies and documentary’s, they have the opportunity to pause or resume of what they are watching which could be very useful towards the audience, and I have many more advantages in mind, so this comes to show of how in some companies the producers have more power and advantages than the consumer but in others, the roles can be switched. One huge joker that the audience has regarding power is illegal downloading (aka pirating) which is applicable towards the music  and film/ TV industry. The reason I am stating this big disadvantage towards the producers is because if consumers are pirating and getting the product for free, this then means that they are no longer paying the big companies/ owners the subscriptions needed to watch or listen to the product therefore putting those companies out of business or out of money. So now as we just heard of that, I think that we can guarantee that for TV and films the consumers have the advantage but even though that in the music industry people also have pirating software's, the main producer/ singer and or DJ could show their superiority in power and just stop their music as  they were not making a huge amount of profit in the first place and also therefore leaving the pirating fans to mourn. In another form, if we investigate this theory that the producer has superiority in power deeper, we will be able to find more facts that build on that point. The reason I think this is because if you take a close look to big companies like Disney, they have billions if not trillions and they own many different companies worldwide! Also, if that wasn't enough, if we (the consumers) manage to take down one of Disney’s documentary/ movie/ show (a really low chance) or if the audience stops watching it because they don't like it much anymore, it really wouldn't be a problem for Disney as they could just take down the non-liked show/ movie/ documentary (or keep it up if they wish) as Disney one of the biggest or if not the biggest companies would surely have some backup shows, movies or documentaries with the amount of  big companies of which they own! So, in conclusion I find that in some cases in film and TV, that the audience has more power but in other ways, the producer has more power which I feel is the case. Now, focusing more on the music industry again, I feel that in majority, the fans would have more power, this is because as I previously stated, pirating and also if the fans don’t necessarily like the song that the artist produced they might not listen to it therefore  reducing the income of the artist(unless like the example i gave with Disney, they could have back up songs), this also might pressurise the artist as they would need to put themselves in the audiences’ shoes and be able to produce songs of which the audience could relate to and like. So, I feel like it is a pretty obvious choice of which has the most power (the consumer). However, those two subjects were pretty easy to cover but what if I told you that now there is something almost unheard of to the kids of this generation and something that has in terms of audience dropped from 7.4 million to just over 7 million viewers from 2014 to 2015 and has dropped an unimaginable amount between then and now! I am not too sure upon newspapers as it is from a previous generation but based on my knowledge, I feel that they both have an equal amount of power. Although, thinking deeper into this, I think that the newspaper producers might just have more power than the audience. The reason of which I think this is because the ideas of news papers could relate to the hypodermic needle theory (the idea of which the media is brainwashing you). A way that these two can relate could be by fake news, my evidence to support this point is from in 1932 when the news said that there was going to be an alien invasion and it was so believable that the state of which the “alien invasion” took place had to be evacuated and some of the biggest military forces were called in ready to engage in combat with these extra-terrestrial space monsters and it ended up all being a joke as the journalists called it. The reason I brought this up was so that I could give you a chance to see how we consumers can be easily controlled by the media because what if it was some sort of theft group who made us feel the need to evacuate and ended up robbing us all. So, for the news, I feel that they have no doubt more power over us and over powerful forces. Before I conclude this essay, I also feel the need to say that now most big companies have overpowered many governments and states and could pretty much use us as their slaves. That was all that I felt the producers overpower the consumers by quiet a bit and have us on leashes.
Thank you for reading and listening  to my opinion and so in a total
summary, I find that the producers may have a significant amount more power than us.

Yours sincerely,
Enzo Ramalho

blue planet work

Passive audience: This is the view that audiences passively take in information from the media and that these messages have the same effect on everyone.

Active: This is the more modern and generally accepted view that audiences interact with and make conscious choices regarding the media they consume.

Hypodermic Needle Theory:This is the theory that the producer is "brainwashing" the audience

this teaches the audience about how different the world under the sea is contrasting and interesting towards the surface and how there is a whole new world under-water.This also has a hint of vicarious pleasure, the reason i think this  is because the voice of blue planet is a man named David Attenborough and he has been voicing this show for over 30 years and so the audience might feel a built up relation with him. This show could entertain viewers as they are embarking on an underwater dive without leaving their home.

7)In the photographic image of the water aid advert what do the following elements of the advert connote:

a)The background setting
b)The child's facial expression

The advert is based in a poor looking country. This can be connoted as the buildings behind the young boy are all made out of mud therefor inferring that the country is poor and cannot afford good facilities.Moving onto the boys facial expressions, you can see that he is not very happy this can connote that he dose not have have the necessary and sanitary conditions to live compared to us.Also, his clothing is blue, this could be purposely put on the boy by the producer as funnily enough, is the same colour as water, inferring that he is in desperate need of water.

1)The preferred reading for the media is what the producers ideology is and what they want you to go away with.

2)The counter reading for the media is what the consumers take away from you what the producer wants.

3)The media shows the teenagers as violent and overzealous as it is the teens that are bad and no adults.

4)However some adults might reject this as teens might feel targeted as maybe not all teenagers and others might think this is too stereotypical.

the preferred reading could be that it is like a sandwich but as a meal so is easy to bring like a sandwich. This could show more convenience as you will now be able to carry a meal with you unlike other foods.also, this is trying to persuade the audience that it is also delicious.the oppositional reading for this could be that this is not how the burger in the restaurant is presented and the poster is lying to us.

the preferred reading for this pringle advert that there are a variety of flavors and show

Post this in a new blogpost on your Media blog called ‘Blog feedback and Learner Response’ then complete the LR tasks/questions below.

WWW: Your Photoshop fruit bowl is excellent and you have chosen some very interesting texts to analyse. It’s clear you enjoy a good variety of different media and this is a critical aspect to a top Media student!

EBI: While your practical, creative work is very good, we do need to focus on our written work. Firstly, you need to treat your blog as you would an exercise book – this means correct titles, using capital letters and writing in full sentences. You also missed out representation for the film poster analysis but this is a tough concept that we haven’t covered yet so don’t worry for now – we’ll get to this later in the term.
LR: Reflect on your first month of Media. What do you feel is your strongest piece of work so far? What is your weakest? What specific skills or knowledge do you need to develop over the rest of the course? How can you improve the depth and detail of your media analysis?

So far,I think that my best work was between the stranger things analysis and the fruit bowl.I feel that my weakest piece of work would probably be the denotations and connotations (not that i think its bad).Over the rest of the course I think that I need to learn more in the editing industries as most good editors will have a variety of jobs especially in the future.I think that in order to progress and exceed my limits in media would be to download apps of which we would tend to use in class like Photoshop and many more.

stranger things miss-en-scene

COSTUME...

One of the costumes from the eight minute clip from stranger things was taken place in the building Hawkins Lab.The name "lab"can infer to the longer version of lab-laboratory,this moving on to my point for the costume seeing as the petrified looking man was wearing a lab suit and if i recall correctly,a pair of glasses. Also,a stereotypical person working in a lab would wear as the man a lab suit with a pair of clean, round glasses.

SETTING...
I feel the need to mention that the mastermind behind the trailer, were trying to make a frighting scene pushing towards the more horror genre.Evidence to support this idea is from the beginning of the clip where the scientist looked mortified from something that from what i can infer emits the same sound as the thing that supposedly killed the man in the lab.And also towards the end of the clip when one of the two boys who raced to the house wildly overtook the other and on his way saw a dark, eerie and gloomy figure standing in front of his route. The boy later ran to his house where mysteriously no one was there...Also,when he tried to ring for help by dialling 911 (the american emergency number) nothing but static was on the other side of the call. Finally, right at the end of the clip, the light shone brightly until the young boy with the bad bowl haircut disappeared into thin air inferring that something bad might have happened to him.

denotations and connotations

DENOTATION  AND CONNOTATIONS    one of the denotations is that there is a boy with a seriously sad frown on his miserable face.i can infer that this photo is taken in a country of poverty like Africa. The reason i thought this is because of the background, for example instead of sports cars and city skyscrapers, there is dry land and mud huts.the malnourished looking boy is also wearing a blue t-shirt which can suggest that the person in charge of this advert, could infer that the boy would like water which is also blue.
_______________________________________
                                                                                        DENOTATION AND CONNOTATION
a denotation is that there are two square inspired characters.you can also see behind them creatures which look like a dog,a cow,a sheep,a pig,a chicken, some sort of zombie and a green monster.looking further into the connotations of this picture you can see that there is a relation between this game and real life for example: animals, caves, trees, caves, mountains etc...this could infer that it is meant to be made as a virtual reality of our earth.
